Ranking Member Walz Reacts To Fired Medical Center Director’s Return To D.C. VA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-Minn.) released the following statement after the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) ordered a stay of Department of Veterans Affairs’ removal of the former Director of the Washington, D.C. VA Medical Center:

“I am disappointed to learn there has been a delay in efforts to hold the D.C. VA accountable,” Rep. Walz said. “I spoke to Secretary Shulkin yesterday and know he remains committed to ensuring the culture and operations of the D.C. VA are completely overhauled. At the same time, I want to ensure that any allegation of whistleblower retaliation is investigated thoroughly and quickly. Congress worked in a bipartisan manner this year to give the VA the additional tools they needed to hold bad actors accountable. As we move forward, we will continue to work together to ensure that veterans have access to the high-quality care they need around the nation. They deserve nothing less.”
